Council members for the City of Bakersfield unanimously passed an ordinance to ban all medical marijuana dispensaries within the city limits.
Ward Two, represented by Terry Maxwell had requested this ordinance be put in place. He asked the city attorney to draw up the ordinance following the California’s Supreme Court ruling which allows cities and counties to make their own ordinances and laws to ban or regulate dispensaries.
During the reading of the ordinance, 24 people submitted time to speak and pleaded with the council to not move forward with the proposed ban.
The final vote will be at the June 26 meeting, and if approved could become law within 30 days.
